Peace in Uncertain Times: How Christians Prevail in the Midst of Chaos

Our World seems to be changing rapidly on all fronts. In the past five years, we have seen:

  • Record tornado outbreaks
  • Massive Earthquakes
  • Political chaos
  • Governments overthrown in multiple countries
  • Continued and escalating wars
  • Worldwide economic crisis, including right here in America
  • Floods, droughts, hurricanes and other natural disasters

These things happen periodically through the cycle of life here on Earth, but we appear to be entering a cycle (if nothing else) of uncertainty. The entire World seems on the brink of collapse if Greece goes bankrupt. The U.S. dollar could collapse due to overprinting of money. The entire Middle East is going through a transformation that threatens the balance of the entire World.

When these things happen sporadically throughout history, they are much less troubling. All these things taking place at one time can lead to an uptick in depression, fears, panic attacks and plain uncertainty for what the future holds. So the question begs, “How do you find peace in such uncertain times?”

God is Still in Control

For Christians, we can find peace in the fact that God is always in control. Romans 8:28 says And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

As Christians, even when we do not understand the circumstances, we have peace knowing that what is happening in the World is working for God’s purpose. God doesn’t always make sense, nor do his ways sometimes.

What we do know is that this age is one day going to pass away. The Bible is clear in describing the times that will precede this coming end. There are many prophecies in the Bible concerning the end times, and we must understand that the upheavals we see in the climate and in governments is are taking place according to prophecy. When we look at the World through the eyes of prophecy, we see that indeed all things are working according to God’s purpose. That ultimate purpose is to bring about the fullness of the Gentiles and re-enter into covenant with the Jewish people.

Evil Will be Destroyed

1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. We have full faith in God, knowing that one day Jesus will indeed destroy Satan and the works of his hand. It is this truth Christians hold onto deep in their hearts.

Jesus’ death gives us victory over Satan’s attacks in our lives, but in the future Jesus will crush the head of Satan and put an end to his stronghold on this world. We hold fast to this truth, even when we are struggling with our faith. We know that our savior reigns and that we are already victorious by the word of our testimony. Steadfast belief in the ultimate end to evil brings peace to our lives as Christians.

Christ Rules our Hearts

Finally, we should have peace because the Bible tells us to have peace. Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

When we allow Christ to rule our hearts, we can have peace that surpasses all understanding, even while the World is falling apart around us. The Bible says in Luke 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth… We see this in our own personal encounters. People all around us are experiencing fear for all the chaos that seems to be going on. We as Christians have the hope of Christ and the opportunity to grant that hope to others.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Non-Christians do not understand this principle and it is one that leads to conversation and an open door with non-believers. When some one sees us as Christians walk in peace in uncertain times, they are drawn to us to find out how we do it.

Have faith. Our God has not lost control. We are living in a time where the Bible is coming to life all around us. Instead of taking this time to be worried about current events, take this time to reinforce your faith with the knowledge of prophecy and your hope in Christ.

About the author

Charles M Having spent a lifetime trying to understand the Bible on a deeper level, I was able to learn how to study in a way that brought the bible to life in its most literal form. Through those studies, it occurred to me that other Christians also need to learn WHY they believe a lot of the things they believe. My mission is to educate both believers and non-believers alike, to prove the authenticity of the word - and show the power that lies within the scriptures.
